The original building opened on 20 April 1912, and films have been presented on this site ever since. The Curzon is now a community cinema, operated as a registered charity.
We have the largest collection of heritage cinema equipment housed in a working cinema.
These provide an alternative to our weekly screenings and is a commitment to showing the best in Hollywood, art house, foreign language and documentary film making.
These films will predominantly take place fortnightly on Sunday evenings at 7.30 pm. There will also be screenings of classic films the fourth Wednesday of each month at 2 pm, when we will serve free tea and coffee with biscuits before the film starts.
These replace our old Film Club and Senior Screenings. The priciples are the same as before, just more inclusive.
The Curzon is able to open the doors at the back of the cinema for those who wish to avoid the stairs.
Please let us know in advance if you have access needs that we can support.
We are always on the look-out for volunteer helpers, ranging from ushers to help us with film screenings to people with specialist skills as occasions arise.
