Organisation Name
Bristol Area Stroke Foundation
Description

The Bristol Area Stroke Foundation (BASF) works across Bristol and South Gloucestershire supporting people affected by stroke. We are a local charity that can help those affected by a stroke adjust to the changes in their life after a stroke.

Stroke usually occurs suddenly, it has been described as like an earthquake in the brain. It is also like an earthquake in the lives of those affected, lives can be turned upside down in a minute.

Our professional staff and volunteers offer guidance, support & counselling to those affected by stroke. We understand the many problems that people may face as a consequence of a stroke.

We focus on the issues that are important to the individual. We support carers as well as the person who has had the stroke. We take particular interest in emotional wellbeing following a stroke as this can have a significant influence on recovery and rehabilitation. We think everyone should be offered help to overcome emotional & psychological problems following stroke.

The services we provide are free, although we make a very small charge to those attending our groups as a contribution to some of the costs.

Our stroke groups are one of the ways that we provide support, encouragement and understanding to those recovering from a stroke. Current groups include:

North Bristol – Portway Thursdays 1.30pm – 3.45pm
