Community Ignite’s aim is to develop vibrant, connected and effective communities through offering skills and opportunities. We listen to residents and offer services that they need and want, creating a brighter future for everyone. We were established in 1986 as the Chase and Kings Forest Community Project and have grown to provide much needed services to help develop the local community.
We work across the south of South Gloucestershire but prioritise our support in the areas of highest deprivation - Kingswood, Staple Hill and Cadbury Heath.
We have recently changed our name to Community Ignite from Chase and Kings Forest Community Project and our services include:
Volunteering Kingswood: We actively encourage local organisations to use volunteers and individuals to volunteer, managing a database of hundreds of opportunities. We are part of the South Gloucestershire Volunteer Centre Partnership.
Support for families: Families can benefit from our parenting support and cooking courses running in Staple Hill, Kingswood and Cadbury Heath. We have provide intensive family support work for families through a new Family Wise project in partnership with Southern Brooks Community Partnerships. This project is part of the Troubled Families initiative and helps parents back into employment whilst supporting children with their engagement in primary school.
Support for those seeking employment: We have developed a range of courses and services to assist those actively looking for work, from CV writing and IT support to tutoring, mentoring, volunteer placements and work-related counselling.
Promoting positive health and well-being: We have eight health champions who champion healthy lifestyles within the communities in Staple Hill and Kingswood. They have a particular interest in mental health and are starting to develop services and support to those with poor mental health.
Training: We offer training to residents and local volunteers to develop key skills including digital skills, speaking with confidence, mentoring.
Providing infrastructure support: We offer individual and group support to voluntary sector organisations in partnership with CVS South Gloucestershire and Southern Brooks Community Partnerships. This work varies from health checks to funding advice and network meetings.
Community development work in Kingswood: We aim to bring the community together in Kingswood and help advocate for them through the inter-agency Connecting Kingswood initiative – a priority neighbourhood working group. We run local events for families and share information across the area to help people know what is happening in Kingswood.
