Social / Befriending organisation for older (over 75's) people living on their own who have little family contact and usually have difficulty getting out & about. Small local volunteer groups of drivers pick up one or 2 elderly guests once a month on a Sunday afternoon and together they go to that months host's house (or community space) for afternoon tea. Drivers commit to driving once a month on a Sunday afternoon (or can be a reserve!) Hosts' offer to hold a tea party just once or twice a year. Each group has a max of 8 older guests. It is a free service - the idea is likened to taking an older relative out to tea on a Sunday. Currently we have numerous groups across Bristol and South Glos, plus groups in Weston super Mare, Portishead, Yeo area, Bath, Frome, Somerton & Langport, MSN & Radstock, Glastonbury, Street, Taunton. Opening times: One Sunday a month 3pm - 5.30pm.
Access: Tea venues are accessible (no more than 3 steps) and have downstairs toilet.
Self referral, Social Services, Letters phone etc.
Volunteers are supported by Regional Development Officer. Each group has a coordinator who is also a volunteer.
