Bristol Mind is a resource for all people in Bristol who identify themselves as having mental health or emotional support needs.
Bristol Mind aims to promote a positive view of mental health and provide services that are accessible, relevant and empowering to the people using them. Our services aim to contribute to mental and emotional wellbeing and to reduce stigma and discrimination.

SERVICES:

Bristol Mindline:
A confidential freephone helpline giving a safe place to talk if you, or someone you know, is in distress. We can also give information about mental health and local services.
Mindline is open Wednesday to Sunday, 8:00 PM to Midnight.

Advocacy Service:
It can be hard to tell people if you are concerned about your treatment in hospital or using a mental health service. Advocacy is when a trained volunteer speaks up for you. They are independent of the health service and completely confidential. Advocates can advise you about your rights.
An advocate can help you to:
- be included in the decision-making process
- be treated with respect and as an equal
- get independent information, support and advice
- challenge assumptions
Advocates offer support and representation at meetings. These can be when you talk to your nurse, doctor or social worker, on ward rounds, or at official meetings.
If you are being kept in hospital under a section of the Mental Health Act they can help you appeal. They provide independent information about your treatment options your rights while in hospital and right to community aftercare. They offer guidance and support with regard to formal procedures such as access to medical records and complaints procedures. Advocates can help you get other services such and solicitors and legal representation.
Bristol Mind offers several types of advocacy:
- Community Outreach Advocacy
- In-patient Advocacy
- Advocacy in Prisons
- Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA)
- Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA)

Training:
Bristol Mind offers a range of training related to emotional and mental health and wellbeing. Delivery is by experienced trainers who are experts through personal experience, or who have practical working knowledge and skills to share, or both.

Signposting & Information:
The administration team provides information on Bristol Mind's services, as well as signposting enquirers to other local services -- for example support groups and counselling services. We also share information from National Mind on a variety of mental health topics. We can provide information by post, over the phone, or by email.

We have a number of roles for volunteers at Bristol Mind, including opportunities with Advocacy, Mindline, and the Admin office. Please contact the administration office for more information.
