FORWARD is an international non-governmental organisation dedicated to improving the health and well-being of African women and girls wherever they reside. FORWARD promotes action to stop harmful traditional practices such as female genital mutilation (FGM) and early and forced marriages, which violate the human rights of women and girls and adversely affect their health and well-being.
In the UK FORWARD provides information, advice and training in relation to FGM to health, education, child protection and social services professionals and FORWARD publishes and distributes training material for professionals and community workers.
Professionals and members of the public contact FORWARD for advice and support in relation to FGM and issues such as child protection and asylum. FORWARD also has an FGM resource library at the office in London which is open to the public. FGM publications are also available to purchase through mail order, as well as videos about FGM which are also available on loan through mail order.
FORWARD provides support and counselling to African girls and women facing a personal crisis as a consequence of FGM who can refer themselves to FORWARD by telephoning 0208 960 4000.
FORWARD is happy to speak to children who have any concerns or would like to talk about their experiences and support can be provided in several African languages.
