The Anchor Society The Anchor Society was established in 1769 and for over 250 years has been committed to supporting vulnerable, older people in the Bristol and neighbouring areas. Our core criteria are that individuals are aged 55 and over, living in the post code areas BS, BA or GL.Grants – We provide emergency one-off grants to people who are in genuine immediate need, to enable them to remain independently in their own homes for as long as possible. The grants are generally for home repairs and adaptations, boiler repairs and replacements, mobility aids, carpets and essential home furnishings. We usually only accept grant requests from known referrers. Details of our grant giving policy can be found at :https://www.anchorsociety.co.uk/grants/Housing Projects – We have developed eight purpose-built retirement homes in the Lawrence Weston area and aim to build more in the region. Other Support – The Anchor Society actively promotes working in partnership with other local organisations to provide services for older people and activities to combat isolation and loneliness. Examples of those we have worked with include BOPFA (Bristol Older People’s Funding Alliance), Bristol Beacon, Alive, Age UK Bristol, LinkAge, BiTC (Bristol in The Community) and AAB (Active Ageing Bristol).
