Mentoring support sessions Our specialist team supports students with diagnosed and undiagnosed mental health needs and/or neurodiversity including Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). You will meet with a Specialist Mentor on a one-to-one basis for a set number of sessions depending on your support needs. Aims Specialist mentoring aims to use specialist knowledge and expertise to create an individual learning plan to: provide a supportive bridge between managing your mental health needs, studies and the whole student experience identify barriers to learning and the impact of your mental health needs and/or neurodivergent profile work with your individual strengths, needs and learning preferences identify areas for development and personal growth to enable you to develop effective transferable skills and learning strategies collaborate with you using a tailored approach to create solution-focused outcomes enhance your confidence and resilience enable you to build independence and fully engage in university life and your studies. How Specialist Mentors can help We provide a supportive bridge between managing your studies and the whole student experience when your studies are affected by mental health, Neurodiversity or a combination of both. Working from a basis of metacognition, Specialist Mentors can help you: understand how you learn best identify triggers that impact on your mental health needs plan, organise and prioritise workload manage work/life balance develop motivation and productivity focus and concentrate more effectively build confidence and self-esteem improve attendance and engagement participate in group work and presentations develop social and communication skills manage anxiety and stress, particularly in relation to exams and assessments make use of relevant resources, tools and apps to become more independent explore options for support both internal and external to UWE Bristol set realistic goals and plan next steps.
