Introduction

Organisation Name
British Trust for Conservation Volunteers - South West
Description

Organise practical conservation projects throughout the 4 unitary authorities formerly Avon. They enable people of all ages and from all sections of the community to take action to care of their environment. They can volunteer on one of the mid-week or weekend projects by just turning up at the pick-up point. Projects include path work, woodland management, drystone walling and hedge laying. Projects are organised during the week and weekends, programmes available from the above address. They can also set up special events for specific groups or help groups organise their own project. Although of a practical nature they do not require volunteers with previous experience, nor do they expect people to be young, fit and healthy.
They run a weekly Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday group for people wanting to get involved.
They also run training courses throughout the South West including NVQs in Environmental Conservation.

Everyone can work at their own pace, and they will offer help and guidance in all aspects of the work.

The Green Gym project involves individuals in conservation tasks to benefit their health, environment and local community. Sessions are usually from 10:00-13:00. Warm up exercises are carried out first. People self refer or can be referred by health professionals.

Minibus to take people to the project sites, they can not cater for wheelchair users. If people wish to volunteer in the office they will conduct an informal interview at the office, or if they want to join practical projects they can just turn up, or ring before hand. They also have opportunities for volunteers to help run projects and/or the office. Support & training are offered to all volunteers.
