Emmaus Bristol is a charity for formerly homeless people, part of the worldwide Emmaus Movement and a member of the Emmaus UK Federation. The purpose of Emmaus is to provide a home, work and support for destitute and homeless people in a supportive community.
Shaftesbury House has 20 Companion rooms, a dining/ living room, TV room and community space. Every Companion has to work a 5 day week in the workshop or help out in the community.
Emmaus Bristol also runs second-hand stores. Everything in the store is donated and then reconditioned in our workshop by Companions, formerly homeless people who live in the Emmaus Bristol Community. They collect goods such as furniture, electrical goods, bicycles, bric-a-brac, books etc. The second-hand store and workshop is at Backfields House, Upper York Street, St Pauls (off Stokes Croft) Bristol and our other store is in Bedminster Parade, Bedminster, opposite Asda.
