Poetry Can was established in March 1995 as a registered charity aiming to encourage as many people as possible within the Bristol and Bath areas to get involved in poetry activity.
It aims to:
Increase the opportunities for everyone to participate in and enjoy
poetry through a strategic programme of events and projects.
Initiate work in which poetry's role in lifelong learning is explored
Support the creative and professional development of poets of all ages
and levels of experience.
Promote its activities on a national level.
Poetry Can believes that getting involved in poetry can benefit everyone and that it has a valuable role in social, cultural and personal development.
Poetry Can's activities span a number of areas:
Concentrated around the Bath Literature Festival and Bristol Poetry Festival. It is also supports Can Openers, monthly public poetry readings taking place in both Bristol and Bath, which offers a regular platform for poets to read and develop their work.
Manages a number of projects that bring poetry into the community. Poets have worked in schools and with older people, plus a range of other projects, including cross art form and digital work.
Training & Support:-
Offers training and networking opportunities to all those interested in developing their creative skills, with regular master classes, workshops and training sessions. At all times the focus is on equal opportunities for all.
