There is a range of free options for mental health and emotional wellbeing support for those aged over 18 who live in South Gloucestershire. Below is a list of the services they provide with details about how to access them.

  • Acute hospital liaison -The service offers a mental health assessment to all adults (18 years and over) attending Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments who have mental health concerns including self harm. It also assists acute general hospitals to assess and treat people with mental health concerns who have been admitted with an existing medical problem. Southmead Hospital – Acute Hospital Liaison Services 0117 414 6589
  • Complex psychological interventions – provides a wide range of therapies and develops the skills of staff, depending on the needs of individual service users. People are usually referred for psychological therapies where complex, longstanding needs have not been addressed by previous interventions. For more information visit the AWP website.
  • Dementia – Memory cafés offer a friendly welcome for anyone affected by dementia, or worried about their or someone else’s memory. They provide practical information and support, as well as the opportunity for people to ask questions and to listen to others’ experience.   • Early intervention in psychosis – a service for people aged 14-35, including talking therapies, education, activities, mediation and working with a care coordinator. Referrals are normally made by GPs.   • Inpatient services – specialist inpatient support for people with complex needs. These services are run by AWP at Southmead Hospital. Call  0117 950 5050 (Southmead Hospital) open 24/7.
  • Intensive services – Consist of experienced mental health staff who offer assessment and home treatment for people aged over 16 years experiencing a mental health crisis, as an alternative to hospital admission. The team operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. However, the team does not provide an ’emergency’ service such as a 999 response.How to get referred: This will usually be through the person’s existing mental health team, GP referral, or self-referral. If the person being referred has never been seen by mental health services previously, they may be asked to see a primary care professional first.   • Learning disabilities services – With services and support provided across inpatient and community settings, our teams of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, nurses and support workers are dedicated to provide access to professional help to those with mental health problems and a co-existing learning disability.   • One You South Gloucestershire – Brings everything together to support local people to improve their mental health, physical health and wellbeing as well as make healthier lifestyle choices. The new service is delivered jointly by Southern Brooks Community Partnerships and South Gloucestershire Council and other community partners including Oasis Talk, Circadian Trust, The Diversity Trust, The Carers Support Centre and Developing Health and Independence (DHI).   • Primary care liaison service – The Primary care mental health liaison service is a short-term support service to help people with mental health difficulties to move forward and get on with their lives. They only receive referrals from GPs and other health or social care professionals.
